Actors have come from far and wide to take part in the West Otago Theatre Society’s production of Les Miserables.

WOTS publicity officer Vicki Crawford said tickets for Les Miserables go on sale on Monday.

The show will run from June 22 to June 30.

Cast members are from areas such as Waitahuna, Lawrence, Alexandra, Dunedin and Cromwell and the most distant is from Canada, but is working locally.

“Some travel quite a distance which is unusual for WOTS,” Mrs Crawford said.

“At the synopsis we had over 70 people and most of them auditioned,” she said.

The cast of little more than 50 had been working extremely hard with many travelling from Gore as well.

“It is a diverse group of people who melded into a close-knit team very quickly,” she said.

“This is evident when you see them practise together.

“But that is largely due to the tone of rehearsals – Margie and Jeff [Rea’s] shows are always like that – very inclusive.”

One of the reasons actors were prepared to travel was that it was an iconic show and if it was possible to take part in it they were keen, Mrs Crawford said.
