It is a bit like Christmas for those unpacking entries in the Hokonui Fashion Design Awards.
Some have been packed with a great deal of care, several even sporting bows.
Awards administrator Sheree McIntyre said about 16 volunteers had been unpacking and cataloguing entries.
Several more volunteers would be joining the ranks during the weekend of the competition.
“It’s very exciting seeing all the beautiful garments,” Mrs McIntyre said.
She was excited by the enthusiasm shown by participants in the schools section.
The awards gave pupils a platform to showcase their designs without having to compete with adults, she said.
Wardrobe head Frances Michels said the schools section had attracted many entries.
Fellow wardrobe head Helen McCurdy said she was encouraged by the designers’ use of fabric in the sustainable section.
Mrs McIntyre said the awards had attracted 200 entries, involving 279 garments.
There were 77 entries in the schools section.
