An endangered blue duck, a dinosaur, and a rocket were among the artistic creations of Longford Intermediate pupils.
Dunedin artist Janet de Wagt led a four-day workshop as part of her work with the Southern Rural Education Activities Programme (Reap).
The sculptures were the final part of the workshop for the nine year 7 pupils.
“The theme is really graphic novels,” Ms de Wagt said.
“They first looked at school journals to see how they’re illustrated, they picked out what they liked and used this as a base.”
The children researched facts about their chosen theme and made poster displays about them using text and illustration.
Ink illustrations were made using sticks, as this would challenge the children.
From there the pupils brought their projects to life by making a model inspired by their theme.
“They’re all very different.
“They’ve done really well.”
Ms de Wagt was a painter, but sometimes experimented with three-dimensional creations for fun.
“To make things in 2-D and then make things in 3-D is quite a brain shift.”Nike SneakersNike Air Force 1 Low White/Sail-Platinum Tint For Sale
