17 join scavenger hunt

The race was on in Lumsden on Wednesday to find all the items in a holiday programme scavenger hunt.
The Northern Southland Community Resource Centre Charitable Trust ran the event, which was based on the television series The Amazing Race.
Community co-ordinator Kim Spencer-McDonald said the event went well.
The scavenger hunt taught skills including teamwork and problem-solving.
The aim of the event was to give children something to do and a “change of scene” at the end of the holidays, she said.
The race also involved local businesses, which made up packs of lollies to give to the children.
“Local people really enjoyed seeing the energy the kids had.”
Seventeen children took part in the event.
“That’s pretty good for a small community,” Mrs Spencer -McDonald said.
The race ran from 1pm to 3.30pm and was free to enter.
This was the second time the event had been held and the trust was planning to run it again next year.
Mrs Spencer-McDonald thanked all the volunteers and local businesses who helped make the event possible.
“We can’t do it without the community support.”trace affiliate linkNike
