St John ambulance station being built in Charlton Rd, Gore has benefited from a quiz night held at Heartland Hotel Croydon.

Heartland Hotel Croydon general manager Mathew Brettell said the hotel hosted weekly quiz nights in winter and had dedicated one of those to raising funds for the rebuild.

A total of $400 was raised on the night, Mr Brettell said.

The quiz night was held on Monday evenings until September, he said.

“Last week was the first quiz of the season,” Mr Brettell said.

One of the teams, Quinella, won the jackpot for the evening and added that to the proceeds destined for St John, he said.

The teams’ entry fees also went towards the funds given to St John, he said.

The quiz had been running for the past seven years.

Last week the quiz attracted 16 teams, he said.

St John Hokonui station manager David Bone was a quiz team member on the night.

The building of the new station was progressing well and was on schedule, Mr Bone said.

The organisation had chosen Gore district firms where it could for the building of the new station, he said.

St John Hokonui area executive officer Vicki Kelly said donations were coming in for the build and were very much appreciated.

“Every donation is very much welcome,” Mrs Kelly said.
