Dogs have their day to support SPCA

Canine companions are being given the chance to enjoy their own day out.
The Gore and Districts SPCA is hosting the Dogs Day Out on Saturday, February 24, starting at 10am.
Shelter supervisor Cath McDowall said registrations would be taken at 10am and the dogs’ walk would start at 10.30am.
There would be dog shows for small, medium and large dogs, Mrs McDowall said.
“And best in show.”
The husky team would be on hand to give a demonstration, she said.
Vet Christina Rock would give a talk about canine health and there would be raffles and spot prizes.
“We’re going to have some live music,” she said.
The event had been held once before but had to be cancelled last year because of wet weather.
The Dogs Day Out was one of the SPCA’s main fundraisers, she said.
“We’re fundraising for shade cloths for our outdoor dog areas.”
Paddling pools had been donated to the SPCA so the dogs could cool off during hot weather. Now, all that was needed was the shade cloth, she said.
Entry for the Dogs Day Out was $10 per dog and entry for the dog shows was $5 each.
“And all donations are gratefully received.”
All dogs must be on a lead and dog owners were responsible for cleaning up their charge’s faeces, Mrs McDowall said.
