People will have the chance to see how trees are transformed using the techniques of the Japanese art of bonsai at a demonstration on Saturday.
The Gore Bonsai Club would be hosting the event at the Hokonui Pavilion at the Gore A&P Showgrounds, member Jim Duncan said.
Otago Bonsai Society member Sean Heseltine would demonstrate the art of bonsai, or the creation of miniature trees, Mr Duncan said.
Anyone curious about bonsai was welcome to attend.
The club was keen to attract more members. It has about six members at present.
Mr Duncan’s start in the hobby was slightly unusual.
“I’ve got a train set and I decided I wanted some trees to put around the train set – but it got a bit out of hand.”
He bought some bonsai trees and now his collection was quite substantial.
Some bonsai trees lived up to 300 years, he said.
Some of the trees he had bought were about 60 years old.
The event is free to to attend.
