It turns out having the finals of the Freeze Ya Bits Off busking competition under cover on Saturday was a good idea.
The event was organised by Gore District Council events and promotion co-ordinator Emma Carle.
Ms Carle said it was fortunate a marquee was put up on the east end of Irk St to host the final.
“It was a godsend on the day because obviously it did rain.
“We were really lucky last year; we had the finals on the street for the first time and while it was sunny, it was pretty cold,” Ms Carle said.
This year the final could not have been held on the street without the marquee.
“It is a busking competition so I do think all of it should be on the street.
“Even the buskers agree with that.”
A crowd of between 300 and 400 attended the final.
About 40 buskers entered the competition.
“It was fantastic to have such a huge number of buskers enter this year.”
There had been a really high standard, especially in the open group category, Ms Carle said.
