For the second time Soroptimist International of Gore is aiming to brighten up residents’ Easter by granting a wish.
Treasurer Anne Gover said this was not the first time the Gore branch had hosted a initiative of this type.
In 1986 the organisation held a similar event, Mrs Gover said.
The Soroptimists were investigating avenues of serving the community, especially at Easter.
At Easter there were older people who did not have family or anyone to look out for them and this would be a way to bring some good cheer, she said.
There were a lot of older people living in their own homes, she said.
“Last year went so well we thought we would do it again,” Mrs Gover said.
“Most wanted outside windows washed.
“It was fun.”
Some recipients just wanted to chat, she said.
“It’s up to them.”
Soroptimists was calling for people aged over 70 living in the Gore district to register their interest in the Spirit of Easter Wish, Mrs Gover said.
People are asked to indicate a wish they would like to receive from the following list.
- Wash outside windows.
- Call for a chat.
- Take the recipient to buy groceries.
- Take the recipient for a car ride.
- Bring the recipient some baking.
- Bring the recipient some flowers.
