Charlton Memorial Hall may have to be sold.
The hall is owned by Charlton Hall Society Incorporated, but secretary Margaret Allan said because it was seldom used, the society was having trouble paying for power and maintenance.
If the society could not get more people to use the hall it would have to be sold, she said.
Although the hall was a bit weathered on the outside, it was tidy, Mrs Allan said.
At the moment, the only hall user was the Charlton Indoor Bowling Club, and its rent was not sufficient to cover the power bill.
“We want to let people know it is still available for a minimal cost.”
The hall was built in the early 1930s and was used by the community for dances and parties, but after Charlton School closed, the hall was not used as much, she said.
The memorial hall had the names of all the fallen soldiers in the district, Mrs Allan said.
“It would be a shame to lose that.”
