Club anniversary prompts rebuild

1958 Ford Custom 300 ... Graeme Young of Pukerau has redone everything on his car.

Graeme Young, of Pukerau, bought his first vehicle at 13 years old, fuelling his passion for cars ever since.

His latest acquisition is a 1958 Ford Custom 300 that he bought from Peter Woods at Charlton RV Imports.

“I always wanted a 1957 model, but when Peter rang and said he had the 1958 model I was in.

“It came into the country without a motor and gearbox, but Peter sourced them for me and I put them in.

“I have owned the car for six years, but it was the 50th anniversary last Easter of the Cobra Rodders that encouraged me to get it on the road.”

The Ford has been completely rebuilt.

“It has been stripped down, converted from left- to right-hand drive, re-chromed, reupholstered, repainted, you name it, it has been done.”

The car when Mr Young bought it was a faded red and white, and it took him a few years to decide what the new colour would be.

“We travel a lot and source and network, but I love the colour and the finished product painted by Paul Herron.”

The upholstery was done by Walkers Upholstery, in Alexandra.

“Again, deciding colours and where the Ford logos went took time to decide.

“The finished interior looks great,”

Both Mr and Mrs Young are members of the Gore Cobra Rodders, and looking forward to summer.

“We will be able to get out and attend a lot more car runs.

“To date there is only 900 miles on the clock. Being a good cruising car, I could drive it all day,” Mr Young said.
