Gore and Districts Memorial RSA life member Fred Cooper is presented with a commemorative World War 1 coin by president Neil Bone in recognition of Mr Cooper turning 100 years old recently.
Mr Bone said Mr Cooper was a life member and deserving of the coin.
“Fred’s done a huge amount of work for the club.”
While Mr Cooper was not the only surviving World War 2 veteran, he was the oldest, Mr Bone said.
The group had bought 10 coins to mark the 100th year old birthday of veterans.
“When they do [turn 100] it’s quite a special occasion.”
So far the late Noel Marshall had been the only other veteran to receive a coin.
Mr Cooper said receiving the coin was a “fantastic gesture”.
“It’s out of this world. I appreciate it very much.”
