Now is the time to recognise those people in our community who have made a difference or excelled, by nominating them for the Gore District Community Awards.
The 11th annual awards will be held at the Gore Town and Country Club Stadium on November 3.
Gore District Council events and promotions co-ordinator Emma Carle said everyone should know at least one person, group or business in their community who would be eligible for an award.
“It could be an outstanding sports coach who’s gone the extra mile, a business that’s given outstanding customer service or a group that’s made a difference,” Ms Carle said.
“There are so many people in our community who quietly go about making a difference and who possibly would not get the recognition they deserve if it wasn’t for the community awards.”
Nominees for all categories, apart from the Civic Award, must live in the Gore and Districts Health Inc boundary, which encompasses West Otago, Southern and Northern Southland as well as the Gore District.
Gore Mayor Tracy Hicks said the awards celebrated success in the community and were an opportunity to recognise leaders and those who achieved.
The awards promoted the success of residents to the rest of the community and the region, Mr Hicks said.
“They’ve been very successful.”
Mr Hicks said the awards event had a really good formula, with good speakers who were amazed by the wealth of talent in the area.
Those talents ranged from volunteering to sporting achievements.
Nominations are open until Friday, September 15.
Nomination forms and criteria for each category are available on the council’s website, www.goredc.govt.nz.
