The Mataura School playing field will be alive with music and colour tomorrow as more than 850 pupils take part in the 2019 Cultural Festival.

Mataura principal Susan Dennison said 13 schools would be participating in the cultural extravaganza.

“Three performances will be performed en masse, at the beginning, middle and end, singing Tihei Mauri Ora, He Honore and Utaina Mai

“St Peter’s College kapa haka and Carol Hayes from Menzies College are bringing a small group to perform fill-in entertainment throughout the event also,” Mrs Dennison said.

Southland Spirit of the Nation brand co-ordinator Gerry Forde would host the event.

It was a community project and schools, parents and local businesses had all contributed to make the day a success, Mrs Dennison said.

“It is all about kids having a diverse range of opportunities while in primary school and being in a large group is important.

“Plus, our kids love to sing.”
