Duke is among the rehoming success stories coming from a partnership between Furever Homes and the Gore District Council.
Furever Homes founder Donna Keil said when Duke was found the council advertised extensively trying to find his owner, but no-one came forward.
“Duke was found in Mataura. He may have been missing for a while and may have travelled a long way as he had sores on his feet, he was very dirty and skinny and had bad skin issues. Some councils would not have gone to the trouble of helping Duke but GDC did,” Mrs Keil said.
He was treated for his medical issues, desexed and was in an amazing home in Central Otago, she said.
“We work with Gore [District Council] to rehabilitate dogs and give them a second chance.”
