The Mataura Lions Club has put the call out for any spare prescription glasses or sunglasses.
Club secretary Diane Callaghan said the club had been collecting glasses to distribute to those in need in the Pacific Islands for several years.
“They get re-calibrated to send to the Pacific Islands,” Mrs Callaghan said.
Lions clubs throughout New Zealand are collecting glasses for the cause.
Traditionally club members and friends donated glasses to send to the islands, she said.
The club is keen to collect glasses from the community.
Fellow club member Patti Apeldoorn said the glasses were distributed through the Fred Hollows Foundation.
“It’s worth doing,” Mrs Apeldoorn said.
Sunglasses could be either ordinary ones or those with prescription lenses.
Anyone wishing to donate glasses could leave them at Mataura Prescription and Gifts.
