Fashion designer launching online unisex streetwear label

A local fashion designer is launching an online clothing label which aims to provide unisex clothing for all age groups. Designer Luke Dawson, of Gore, said he was launching his label — Luke Dawson — next Wednesday. He saw the clothing as a canvas, he said.
‘‘I see it as a canvas to put my drawings on to and eventually every piece will be part of my comic stories.’’ The clothing was streetwear style and the summer collection comprised T-shirts and singlets. He worked with clothing manufacturer Arlene Sutherland to produce the clothing using his designs. He wanted to do the launch in Gore because the clothing would stand out more in the town than in a larger centre. He was inspired to get into the industry because of his grandma, who was an ‘‘amazing’’ seamstress. ‘‘It’s sort of a dedication to my grandma, who died when I was 15.’’ He had also created a competition through his Facebook page where people had the chance to win two jackets. He was targeting the clothing at all age groups.

The brand’s website, www.lukedawson.co.nz, would also launch next Wednesday.
