The CrossFit Gore 10km Team Relay Fun Run is a chance to get together, get active and support a good cause.
Taking place at the Gore A&P Showgrounds at 9am on March 26, the event will be raising money for the Southland Charity Hospital.
Organiser Anissa Brown said it was the perfect cause to give back to.
“We all might need to use it at some point in our lives.”
While she had organised other events for CrossFit Gore, this was open to the general public, she said.
“Even if you are a seasoned runner or a complete newbie, it doesn’t matter.
“You don’t have to run it. You can walk it.
“There are no winners and no losers.”
People can enter alone or in teams of up to 10, with one team member running the 1km loop at a time.
It had been a tough time for a lot of people and this was a good opportunity to just have some fun, Ms Brown said.
“Getting out and about, getting some fresh air and a little bit of exercise, maybe some bonding with other like-minded people, [it] doesn’t get much better.”
It was also a good bonding opportunity for sports teams or workplaces, which had been kept apart by Covid.
“Some workplaces at the moment are operating from home, and they don’t actually have the opportunity to get together much anymore.”
Covid had also seemed to put a stop to other fun run events, she said.
“I wanted to do it because Gore hasn’t had these events in a long time.”
There was a plan in place to make sure Covid guidelines were followed, which could include separating participants into groups and having them run in waves.
Interest in the event was already high and the police and the Blue Light charity had jumped on board, she said.
A sausage sizzle will be held at the event, the proceeds of which will also go to the Southland Charity Hospital.
The fun run costs $10 per person to enter.
