Good standard of play at primary tennis tournament

The weather drove the Eastern Southland Primary Schools tennis tournament inside last week.

The tournament, for year 5-6 and year 7-8 pupils, was to have been held at the courts of the Citizens and Gore clubs.

Eastern Southland Tennis president Susan Wilson said 24 children entered the event, slightly fewer than last year.

“It comes in waves as kids go off to high school,” Wilson said.

A good standard of tennis was played.

“They’ve got to be club tennis players to enter.”

The girls 7-8 grade was won by Penny Nicholson, of St Peter’s College, the year 7-8 boys was won by Joel Wilson, of Longford Intermediate School, and the year 5-6 boys by Max Eckhout, of Gore Main School.

There were no entries in the year 5-6 girls competition.

The top four boys and girls in each age-group qualified for the Southland tournament on October 28.Sportswear free shippingAir Jordan Release Dates 2021 Updated
