Gore man Andrew Graves won the 4WD section in the Circle Hill Rally Sprint last weekend.
Graves, said he had not competed in his 4WD Mitsubishi Evo 3 since around November due to being away competing as a co-driver for the Holden team.
“I am really stoked to have been away from the car that long and to have won – it’s really awesome.”
The rallysprint involved completing four runs over a short section of road.
“The fastest time of the day wins their section,” he said.
The rally was staged north of Milton by the Otago Sports Car Club.
Graves said his co-driver, Nikita Gibson (16), did a “fantastic” job and it was her first overall win at a event. The team won by 0.27s of a second.
“On the day, Jeff Judd [Christchurch] was my main competition. He put up a good fight and was great competition till the last minute.”
Graves said his next rally was the Catlins Rally on August 12.
After that, he will head off to the Coromandel for an event there.
