The ball is in the net for Eastern Southland Riding for Developing Abilities.
The Mataura Licensing Trust has given the group a new basketball hoop after its previous one was stolen.
Trust member Alan Byrne said RDA was a worthy cause.
“They do a lot for people. It’s amazing what they do for the people who ride the horses,” Mr Byrne said.
“They looked like they needed one.”
Head coach Carol Dawson said she was overwhelmed by the amount of support the group got from the community.
“We had a lot of people call and say ‘we have an old hoop in the backyard you can have’,” Mrs Dawson said.
“We do appreciate the support.”
Throwing the ball in the hoop was a popular activity among the riders, she said.
“The kids get very excited.”
It also helped them with hand-eye co-ordination, she said.
“The whole point is to help develop their differing abilities.
“Fun is an important part of it.”
The hoop had been locked away in the shed and would be put up at the start of next year.
