A visiting group of Tongan evangelists is visiting and singing at venues around Eastern Southland such as Gore’s New World supermarket.
The group of 11 is visiting New Zealand under the banner of the 3D training course based in Tonga.
The name “3D” stood for development – understanding what it meant to be a Christian in the 21st century; disciple – learning how to grow in Christ-like character; and deploy – putting the training together.
While in the south the group was staying at The Hub at Riversdale, which hosted 3D training courses and visited Tonga annually.
The Northern Southland courses are run under the umbrella of the Riversdale Waikaia Presbyterian Church.
3D Mission Training deputy director Foliaki Taufa, who is based in Riversdale, said the group was in the south for two weeks.
“It’s part of the outreach course,” Mr Taufa said.
While in the south the group visited churches, rest-homes and entertained at the supermarket, he said.
A visit to the Hokonui Runanga was also planned.
Moana Hehepoto, who was travelling with the group, said the visit to the runanga would provide a good cultural exchange experience for all involved.
The group had spent two weeks based near Warkworth in the North Island and, once they finished their stay in the south, they would return to the northern centre, Miss Hehepoto said.
