Five Balfour scouts received their Chief Scout Award on Friday.
Connor Appleyard-Drake (14), Brandon Forsyth (15), Josh Bennett (14), Arriana Forsyth (13) and Oliver Trusler (15) have been working towards the award for about three years.
Balfour Scout leader Rachel Trusler said the last Chief Scout Award made to a Balfour scout was in 2014.
“It has been quite some time since any of our scouts have achieved this award,” Mrs Trusler said.
This award is the highest award scouts can earn before they become venturers, she said.
“Scouts have to work thorough the different stages, bronze, silver and gold.”
They had to complete challenges including organising camps, community service, leadership programmes, cooking, adventure challenges and survival, she said.
“They are great role models within scouting. I am very proud of them.”
There were 14 scouts within the Balfour group, Mrs Trusler said. The younger scouts had been encouraged to work towards the Chief Scout Award through seeing the older scouts achieve it, she said.
The next step was to join venturers, Mrs Trusler said.
“There’s not a venturers group in Balfour but we would like to create a lone venturers group ..”
Lone venturers would 0work with other venturers groups as well as a lone venturer leader to complete badges.
“We have three kids that are very keen to continue on to venturers,” Mrs Trusler said.
