The proceeds from a recent home show organised by the Gore River Valley Lions Club have gone towards helping build a line of cupboards at the St John Hokonui Area station.

Six houses and one boat were in the Lions’ fundraiser.

Lions president Christine Eason said proceeds from the day amounted to $1500.

The money is to go towards the building of cupboards in the garage where the ambulances are housed in the new station in Charlton Rd.

St John Hokonui area executive officer Vicki Kelly appreciated the Lions’ generosity.

The total cost of the cupboards would be about $10,000, Mrs Kelly said.

They would span the width of the back wall of the garage and would be used to store equipment such as wet weather gear and vests.

“It’s just to tidy things up and make it less cluttered,” she said.

The Gore Host Lions Club also presented St John with a $2000 donation to go towards the building of the cupboards recently.

“We’re getting closer [to building the cupboards],” Mrs Kelly said.
