The Gore Host Lions Club has received organisation-wide recognition with an international president’s certificate of appreciation for its 47 years of hard work on the St James Theatre.
Lions district awards co-ordinator Wendy Goodwin said members were “astounded” with the award.
“In the club, most members don’t expect anything back, so it’s been good for them to be recognised.”
The award was presented at the Gore and Districts Memorial RSA at the start of the month.
Present were club members, Gore Mayor Tracy Hicks and his wife Robyn and St James Theatre Trust chairman Craig McIntyre.
The Gore Host Lions Club had a number of qualified builders, carpenters and tradesmen who donated their time to help with work in the community, Mrs Goodwin said.
Some of this work included the seismic strengthening and upgrading of the toilets in the St James Theatre building.
The club would also help with the installation of a new lift in the theatre once funds had been secured.
Lion clubs within the district were always on the lookout for new members, she said.
