Andrea Caughey makes a statement when she drives around town – she has a bright blue 1969 Volkswagen, which she adores.
It is the second VW Mrs Caughey has owned.
She is unsure why she loves “beetles” – it could be the streamlined shape.
“I’ve always loved them,” Mrs Caughey said.
“It was a Christmas present from my husband a few years ago – he hunted it down,” she said.
“This one I’d have to say is quite reliable.”
The first VW she owned was not quite as reliable.
Her present VW is powered by a 1500cc motor.
“It’s very economical.”
Mrs Caughey uses the car daily in warmer weather.
“I do drive it all the time.”
The beetle is easy to park, but not so good when trying to transport a lot of groceries, she said.
“It’s more of a summer car. It has no heater, the windows fog up unfortunately – I pop it away for winter.”
The gearbox could be a bit temperamental and needed careful handling, she said.
The car also acts as a canvas for advertising Mrs Caughey’s business, Collective Design.
