A love for classic Ford Falcons runs strong in Stewart Soper’s family.

The Gore man has always been interested in cars but particularly likes the shape of the XB and XR models, a passion which he shares with his two sons.

“I used to have a XB back in the day and now the kids are grown I’d thought I’d get another,” he said.

“I saw a XB GT 351 replica on Trade Me in 2021 and was debating whether to buy it and thought ‘what the hell’.”

The 1974 model, which came fully restored and registered, is in pretty good order.

“It’s got a new interior and a brand-new crate motor,” he said.

“I did redo the exhaust to make it sound better, but I’ve spent enough on it for the moment.”

He enjoyed taking the car out for a cruise on sunny afternoons.

“It doesn’t go out in the rain,” he said.

He does not belong to a classic car club but enjoys attending events and is looking to show the car as events start running again.

However, it was most recently used for a family wedding, along with another owned by his son Trent.

“Both my sons now own classic Ford Falcons,” he said.

“It’s a good way to bond now the boys have grown.”
