This year’s Southland Combined Waterway Challenge was hosted by the Mataura Volunteer Fire Brigade at Tulloch Park on Saturday.
Three-man and five-man teams from throughout Southland and Otago competed across eight and nine events respectively.
Aggregate scores determined the winners at the end of the day.
Mataura Volunteer Fire Brigade senior firefighter and team captain Brendon (Moe) Murray said the Mataura side did reasonably well, placing third in the five-man event and fourth in the three-man event.
The three-man team comprised Luke Whitbrock, Chris Duffy and Codi Millan; and the five-man team comprised Wayne Murray, Nick Callick, Neville Phillips, Callum Sinclair and Mr Murray.
The three-man team competed against teams from Mossburn (an A and B team), Wyndham and Oamaru.
The five-man competition featured teams from Kaitangata, Balclutha and Cromwell.
The next challenge is the Otago Southland Provincial Fire Brigade Association Waterway Challenge being held in Wanaka this weekend.
