The Gore Playgroup is keen to attract more members to its ranks.
The playgroup meets on Thursdays from 10am to noon at the West Gore School hall.
It has a good selection of toys and holds craft and activity sessions.
The group is open to preschool children, including babies.
The playgroup was formerly known as the West Gore Playgroup.
Group president Carmel Davis said the playgroup started in 1986 in an empty classroom at St Mary’s School.
“The group was (and still is) intended to be as much for the parents as it is for the children,” Mrs Davis said.
As the roll grew, a temporary move was made to the Calvin Community Church Sunday school rooms and then it moved to its current home at the West Gore School hall, she said.
Parent Trudie South said the first visit to the playgroup was free and it was $2 a session after that.
Teacher Brenda Hope attended the group every second week and helped children with crafts and themed activities.
“We all try and help because it’s a voluntary thing,” Ms South said.
The group would be taking a bus trip to a petting zoo in Mataura on May 17, she said.
