An investigation has been launched following a second blaze at a property in Gore on Thursday.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman confirmed it was treating the fire as “suspicious”.
An earlier fire damaged the same Hokonui Dr (State Highway 94) house in September, as reported in the Otago Daily Times.
Firefighters attended the scene from 2.50am.
“The structure was well involved in fire when the crew arrived.
“Gore asked for assistance so Mataura came to give them a hand.”
Four appliances attended the event as fire crews were concerned it would spread to neighbouring houses, and they undertook “an aggressive external attack” which was successful.
“The fire was contained to just the one house, thankfully.”
The fire was extinguished by 4.19am.
No-one had been reported on the property during the blaze and there were no injuries.
The spokesperson confirmed a scene guard was in place and a fire investigator examined the property on Thursday to determine a cause.
