The duck shooting season got off to a great start for two duck-shooters from Whiterig on Saturday.
Ian Withers and his son, Paul, shot their limit of 40 ducks by 1pm.
“It was the best shoot I have had in years,” Ian Withers said.
He had been shooting on and off for more than 55 years.
His best shoot was in 1964 at Te Tipua Creek.
“That day we got about 70 ducks between us over the two days we went out,” he said.
This year was the best opening weekend in the last 10 years, Mr Withers said.
“Every year for the last 10 years we have had fine, sunny days but not many ducks. This year we didn’t have to feed the pond and we never had any decoys but there were plenty of ducks around,” he said.
This year Mr Withers shot from a spot at Gold Creek, near Gore.
