A sleepless night for Carol Graves resulted in a windfall for the Eastern Southland Red Cross Community Transport service.
The Eastern Southland Red Cross president said while she was lying awake, she thought up the idea of hosting a raffle at the Gore Rhododendron Festival, with the proceeds going to the transport arm of the organisation.
Mrs Graves said when the Citizens Advice Bureau closed in Gore, the Red Cross gained some of those members and she was keen to keep them involved. Hosting the raffle fitted the bill as well as helping the transport service.
She decided proceeds from a raffle would help the transport arm of the organisation pay expenses.
The raffle raised $557.
“Thanks to the public, it was successful,” Mrs Graves said.
