Social rewards for willing driver

Goldfields Cavalcade participant Erin Allan is looking for someone with a heavy traffic licence and a little bit of time to drive her truck, which will be loaded with cavalcaders’ gear.
The Gore resident is about to embark on her 23rd cavalcade and this year she is struggling to find someone to drive her truck from each overnight stop to the next.
From the start of the cavalcade, the truck would be loaded with riders’ gear, such as sleeping bags and personal belongings. The driver dropped off the gear at each overnight stop for the duration of the cavalcade.
“So we have to have a driver for a week,” Mrs Allan said.
There had been several people over the years who had taken on the role, some helping out for five or six years, she said.
The cavalcade atmosphere was one of camaraderie and was very social.
“It’s as social as you want it to be and we are extremely well fed and we don’t lose weight,” she said.
The event starts at Kaiwera on February 24.
“We come into Owaka on the 3rd of March.”
Mrs Allan will be driving a gig while her son Luke Swanson will ride a horse on the trail.
