Coming first in the novice class at the South Island Secondary Schools Motocross, Jonty Riordan (15), of Waikaka, had the fastest time overall after his three races.
The motocross series was held in Otaio, south of Timaru, last weekend.
Jonty lives for riding his trail bike and competing in motocross at every opportunity.
Over the three races, Jonty had the fastest overall time in the novice section, giving him first place.
“It was a technical track with a lot of tight corners.
“But the conditions were perfect, no wind and no mud,” he said.
Jonty got his first motorbike at 3 and has been passionate about riding ever since.
“I do go out and ride on our track at home every opportunity I get.”
To date, Jonty has come off his bike a couple of times but was pleased to say there had been nothing too major.
“I was pinned underneath the bike and got burns to my back, but can’t complain if that is the worst injury to date.”
Winning for the first time has been a huge buzz for the teen who said he would be practising at every opportunity to get ready for the Southern Series which starts next month.
