Thieves have robbed Riding for for Developing Abilities group riders of a much enjoyed activity.
The group’s basketball hoop was stolen on Friday night from the Gore A&P Showgrounds where the group has its grounds and rooms, head coach Carol Dawson said.
The hoop was not in a highly visible location, so whoever took it knew of its location, she said.
“For some of the kids it’s the highlight of the day, throwing the ball from horseback,” Mrs Dawson said.
“We would just like it returned. Please give it back. It’s just gutting, really,” she said.
The hoop was on a large plastic base which was normally filled with water, she said.
Not only did the selfish act have an impact on those attending the weekly riding sessions but also the volunteers who put in collectively about 100 hours of work each week, she said.
It was not the first time the organisation had been targeted.
“We were broken into three times earlier this year.”
Food was stolen on each occasion, she said.
“After the second time we set up a camera in the rooms and they stole the camera.”
But the group was determined not to be beaten and had beefed up its security around the rooms, she said.
