Into the tunnel . . . Callan Campbell (6), of Mataura Island, checks out the Glenham tunnel during Sunday's walk.

Last Sunday’s 5km walk to raise funds for the Wyndham Museum was a success, organisers say.

Almost $2000 was raised for the rebuild, as 240 people took part in the afternoon stroll.

Glenham community member Bev Howe said it had been so wet and cold recently they almost called it off.

“Instead we got a lovely day, perhaps too hot, though,” she said.

“There were a lot of very red faces that came back to the hall for afternoon tea.”

Several walkers said they really enjoyed it, apart from the hills, Mrs Howe said.

“They all thought the tunnel was amazing.

“It was great to see lots of families out enjoying themselves and several of the children were riding their bikes.”

Their next fundraising venture will be the Glenham Trainwreck Trail, which the Glenham Community and the Glenham School combine to run on January 18, 2020.
