Former Mataura Licensing Trust general manager John Wyeth has been appointed as a trustee of the Community Trust of Southland,

Mr Wyeth retired from his position as MLT general manager earlier this year.

He had held the position for 29 years.

Community Trust of Southland chairwoman Margot Hishon welcomed the new appointment.

“John brings a wealth of experience within a trust environment to the board, which will complement the existing trustees’ expertise and knowledge very well,” Mrs Hishon said.

“We look forward to having John on board as we continue to support the community,” she said.

Trustee appointments are made by the Minister of Finance, after receiving nominations from the trust and from a range of other organisations and individuals within the trust’s region.

Mr Wyeth said when the suggestion was made he should become involved in the community trust he thought he might as well have a go.

He had enjoyed his association with the MLT, which was a community-based organisation, for many years, he said.

The new tenure was an extension of his former role.

Mrs Hishon also confirmed the reappointment of Trish Boyle and Lindsay Wright for another four-year term.

Mrs Hishon paid tribute to outgoing trustee Stephen Bragg.

“Stephen has made an excellent contribution during his time as a trustee, and his commitment to the trust’s governance and to the community is appreciated.”
