Action-packed club day promised

There is plenty of rugby action this Saturday. The Tapanui Rugby Club is holding its club day. Primary school players join those from Heriot to form combined sides while secondary school players join Lawrence Area School to create West Otago teams. Blue Mountain College deputy principal Peter Davies said the West Otago teams had been going well. The colts side (under-16s) made a semifinal but lost to Waitaki Boys’ High School on Saturday. It will play Kavanagh College in the final game of the term. ‘‘The colts have been having a good season. We don’t have enough players for an under-18 side this season but it has been good to see all the younger guys going well,’’ Davies said. He said the side had done plenty of travelling as it played game Otago-wide. ‘‘The attitude of the players has been really good as we have had to travel as far as Oamaru, but equally it has been pleasing to have so many teams make the road trip here to play us. ‘‘We haven’t had too many pull out this season, which is nice as it has got the boys playing rugby,’’ he said. When it came to the other West Otago sides, there was also plenty to smile about, Davies said. The under-14s side has gone through the season undefeated so far. ‘‘They have played very well to get as far as they have and still not lost a game. They have done well,’’ he said. However, he said the under-15 side had been unlucky and had a mixed season due to injuries. ‘‘They have been a bit up and down but when they get a full team out there, they play well together.’’ This Saturday, there will be plenty of rugby at the club, with games in the morning and afternoon from the under-9s and rippa rugby through to the colts. – 10am: Heriot/Tapanui under-9s, both teams v Clutha 11am: Heriot/Tapanui under-11s v Toko Heriot/Tapanui under 13s v Toko/Lawrence Noon: West Otago under-14s v Kaikorai Valley West Otago under 15s v South Otago 1pm: West Otago colts v Kavanaghlatest jordansShop: Nike
