Northern Southland College pupil Isobel Law (12) is in year 7 but did not let her age stop her at a climbing competition last weekend.
Isobel came first in the junior girls section of a rock climbing competition held at the YMCA in Invercargill.
“The youngest age group was actually year 9 and 10, but I managed to squeeze in due to the YMCA being where I train,” she said.
“I won the junior girls and I also got second in the teams challenge .. I didn’t have any team members, I just gained enough points.”
She received medals for her placings.
She began climbing two and a-half years ago.
“I went to Clip ‘n Climb [climbing facility at ILT Stadium] for my birthday one year and the instructor told me I was a good climber and that I should join the club there,” she said.
“So I did.
“I couldn’t make the children’s classes as it clashed with school, so I joined in with the adults.”
She did not think training with adults had made much of a difference to her skill set.
She was not too sure where her passion for climbing came from, but she enjoyed being up high.
“I really enjoy it.”Nike footwearbalerĂnky
