More than 50 rugby players, administrators and volunteers turned out on Monday for the Rugby Southland forum in Gore.
The forum focused on the future of rugby.
Rugby Southland general manager Andrew Moreton said four meetings were held in Southland and the Gore one had the biggest crowd.
“There were a good mixture of players and administration at the meeting, too.
“Last time we held a community forum was four years ago. We knew some competitions were less than desirable and a great way to get ideas about the positive and negatives of rugby is within the community.
“It is really important we hear the voice of players because they are the ones playing – we need to consult with them.
“It is the voice of the community.”
Moreton said there were similar thoughts and feedback at all four forums.
“One thing that got brought up was the succession – the clubs need help with it.
“Some of these guys have been there 40 years now.
“It’s time we look for the younger generation and pass the baton on.”
Moreton said many topics were talked about during the meeting.
