The under-15 Eastern team won its section at the Eastern Southland Netball age group tournament at the Gore Multisports Complex on Sunday.
The tournament was held for elite under-14 and under-15 players from throughout the lower South Island.
Tour convener Dana Turnbull said nine teams competed in each section.
The day was very successful and the Eastern teams both had good results, she said.
“The under-15 team won their competition. They played off in a final against Dunedin B and it was really tight.”
“The under-14 team came in fifth place.”
The coach of the Eastern under-15 team, Lynn Morton, said the win was extremely well deserved.
‘Those girls are really talented. It’s quite exceptional,” she said.
“They have a lot of people watching them.
“The final was one of our hardest games ever. It was really tight but we got there.”
Morton said the win was a team effort.
‘Every team member contributed to the team’s success.”
Elite players came together to play “awesome netball”, Turnbull said.
“It was clear the coaches and players had worked very hard to get to the skill level they were at.
“It was great to have so many people see our awesome stadium and the talent on display here.”
Morton said the Eastern under-15 team had won two tournaments and would head to Dunedin next week with the under-14 side for the final tournament of the season.
