The final of Gore Town and Country Club’s Southern Pairs pool tournament was an all-Gore match-up.
Club section members Craig Ford and David Barton beat Shannon Swain and Mike Gratton for the title.
This is the 41st year the tournament has been held.
Pool section president Corrie Evans said it had been about six years since Gore players had contested the final.
“It was an all-Gore final for a change,” Evans said.
The win was especially pleasing for Barton, he said.
“He’s been trying for 26 years to win it, so he finally got there.”
The numbers taking part were about 20 down on previous years with 45 pairs entered.
“There was a huge Dunedin national tournament on that weekend,” Evans said.
The winners from the past four years, Mike Bowen and Brendan Ng, of Dunedin, did not attend due to the Dunedin tournament.
Other competitors travelled from as far away from Christchurch to play and some Aucklanders, who were travelling in the South, found out about the tournament and joined in.
