The weather was perfect and the players were in top form at the Dorothy Marshall Trophy tournament held by the Gore Croquet Club.
In the final of the golf croquet, Avis Frame and Lex Knapp played James Telfer and Ray Donaldson.
The game was tense and precision and concentration was evident. Frame and Knapp took top place.
Dorothy Marshall, the club’s patron, was on hand to present the trophy.
Club publicity officer Helen Williams said 20 players took part in the competition.
“It’s our closing-day tournament. It’s a good tournament,” Williams said.
The club celebrated the winners of the tournament and a successful season, in which it picked up about 11 new members.
The club now has 28 members.
The increase in numbers was attributed to the club hosting workplace sessions aimed at capturing the business Christmas party market. The sessions were a success, Mrs Williams said.
Co-winner Frame is a new recruit.
“I only started just before Christmas,” she said.
She said before taking part in the tournament she had a couple of off days, but that was not evident on finals day.
“We were right to the wire,” she said.
