The Hokonui Militaires are heading to Hamilton this week to compete in the New Zealand Marching Championships.
The team has been training hard every week for almost nine months for the championships.
Team coaches Levana Bartlett and Toni Grumball said the girls were all very excited and ready for one last push to finish the season.
After a short break over the Christmas period, the team had been training three times a week.
The team had also had a competition each Sunday during February.
“It has been incredibly full on, but the team keep stepping up,” Mrs Grumball said.
The championships would be a big step up from the local competitions the team had participated in.
Usually the Hokonui Militaires competed against four other teams in their under-12 grade, but at the championships they would face 19.
Regardless of the outcome in Hamilton, Mrs Grumball and Mrs Bartlett said they were incredibly proud of their charges and their efforts this season.
The championships would cap off the season.
The new season would begin in June. Any interested girls would be welcome to come along and see what the sport was all about, they said.
