Gore Wanderers football club member Miguel Ortiz is at the top of the leader board again this season.
has scored the highest number goals this season with 17 from eight games.
Ortiz, who plays for Laser Plumbing Gore Wanderers, said last season he scored the most, too – 13.
The Wanderers are second on the Southland Football men’s premier table with 22 points, two points behind Lakers House of Travel Old Boys AFC.
Ortiz, who recently moved from Wendon Gore to Mokotua, drives one hour to attend practices twice a week. He said it had been a big commitment to drive so far.
Ortiz said the distance did not make him question his place in the team and he would continue to play for Wanderers.
“I’m in it and I want to make it until the end,” he said.
“It has been a good season so far, better I think because we know each other well.”
Ortiz said his good team-mates and coach made him a better player.
The Wanderers’ next game is at Hyde Park at 3pm on Saturday.
