After more than 50 years the Riversdale Golf Club has another flag to fly in the clubrooms.
Last week the women’s team won the Southland Women’s Pennants tournament at the Te Anau Golf Course.
The team was made up of Mary Dillon, Lesley Clarke, Pam Snell and Julia Wing.
Dillon also won the individual event.
Club captain Robyn Crooks said the club had won the tournament only twice, in 1969 and 1970.
The two triangular flags the club members won in those events were displayed in the clubrooms.
The shape of this year’s “pennant” was rectangular.
Most clubs in Southland sent a team to the tournament and the best three scores were counted to find the winner.
“Because you’ve got a handicap system in golf, everybody’s on a level playing field,” Crooks said.
It was “awesome” Dillon won the individual event, as injuries had affected her form in the past three to four years.
