You will be able to see harness racing at its best this Sunday at the Northern Southland Trotting Club’s pre-Christmas races at the Balfour Racecourse.
The first race will start at 1pm. The last race of the day is the 58th running of the $1000 Andrews Transport Tin Shed Cup.
There will be fun for all the family – a treasure hunt and art competition for the children, and a lolly scramble run by No Nonsense Noddy.
The Balfour Lions Club runs the food shop providing delicious treats thanks to “Tiddles” and associates throughout the afternoon.
Early races are programmed for the least experienced horses, then qualifying heats after which the equalisator betting starts in earnest with races for horses with similar ability.
Last year’s Andrews Transport Tin Shed Cup was won by the Clark Barron-trained All Jokes Aside.
The club provides a complimentary barbecue after the last race for all the trainers, helpers and hangers on.
There will be money up for grabs with the Rugby Club sulky race, won last year by the local Balfour Club.
Any rugby clubs that wish to enter a three-man team in the Sulky race should ring Nicol on 0275 936-352 to register. The prize money in the final heat is $300 for first, $200 for second and $100 for third, so get a team together and join the fun.
So if you are keen for a relaxing afternoon with more than a spoonful of fun, then treat yourself at the Northern Southland Trotting Club at the Balfour Racecourse this Sunday from 1pm.Adidas footwearnike lunar janoski black and gold swoosh blue
