Sweet victory rewards dedication

Another Eastern Southland rugby side has gone through the season undefeated as a Gore High School team won the under-14 final on Saturday.
The team secured nine wins in the regular season, three in the qualifying finals, and the final win.
Included in that total are seven wins from seven matches against traditional rugby stronghold Southland Boys’ High School.
In the final, Gore High beat Southland Boys’ High School Red 29-17.
Manager David Sleeman said he was impressed by the attitude of the players.
‘‘They turn up week after week after week, whether they are playing or training, in rain, hail or snow,’’ Sleeman said.
He said the players deserved praise, with their hard work showing by finals time.
He said coach Bruce Morton and his assistant, Ricky Heaps, had 24 boys to choose from most weeks.
‘‘The most rewarding thing has been the improvement in some of the players. There have been some who had not played rugby before the season and they have improved a lot.’’
Sleeman said this group and other Gore High School teams promised a good future for Gore High School rugby.
‘‘There is some exciting talent in there and it should mean there will be a few talented rugby players coming through here in the next five years,’’Nike Sneakers StoreNike Air Max 270
