The Eastern Southland Midwifery Gore Wanderers women’s team ended its season with a bang on Sunday.
The Wanderers women beat Thistle-Waihopai in their final game of the season in the Southland Football women’s division 1 competition, played at Hyde Park in Gore.
The team won 11-2. It had led 3-2 at halftime.
Gore Wanderers president and player Mel Mckenzie said the team really put the hammer down after halftime and scored some nice goals.
“Louise Dennison scored four goals and Kate Gentle, at centre, did well,” Mckenzie said.
The team’s play this season had been consistent and Mckenzie put it down to “treating each other like family”.
“We all respect each other on and off the field. We have a laugh and enjoy ourselves and it has made us a really tight team,” she said.
“We just gelled.”
The Wanderers worked together well. They were vocal, and their support for each other was obvious and made it a great game to watch.
Mckenzie said this season they had many new players who had only joined at the start of the season.
“We like to have fun.”
Mckenzie said anybody interested in playing football could contact her on 027 323-6224.Sports ShoesPatike – Nike Air Jordan, Premium, Retro Klasici, Sneakers
