Wins good start to their season for Wanderers

The Gore Wanderers Black team made a shaky start to its game against Waihopai but recovered to record a convincing 10 to 1 win.

The Southland Football division two game was played at Hyde Park Gore on Saturday.

Coach Dave Muir said the team struggled in the first half to play its passing game.

“The guys were running around like headless chooks.”

At half time, the team was up 3 to 1.

“I gave them bit of a rev up at half time.”

He encouraged the team to let the ball do the work and not them.

“The ball will always be faster around the pitch than the men.”

Once the team started passing the ball in the second half, the goals kept coming.

Earl Foran had a good game.

“He managed to get a hat trick of goals.”

In the backs, Zane Lidgett marked the Waihopai winger well.

“He played a nice solid game at the back.”

The team had made a good start to the season with two wins.

However, next up the team would play Gore Wanderers Red.

“That’s going to be a tough encounter.”
